Fishers Return to the North Cascades

Wild fishers back in the North Cascades after about a century of absence from over trapping and predator poisoning campaigns thanks to the hard work of many including the ongoing advocacy work of Conservation Northwest, who invited me out to be able to photograph this release near Darrington, Washington. Glad to see representatives from both of Washington State’s US Senators there! They even helped carry the box out to the release site.

Fishers are a small carnivore (about the size of a house cat) in the weasel family, closely related to the smaller American marten and larger wolverine. Read more about these animals and their return to the North Cascades here.
